The typical three-color NATO camouflage began to be used in the 1980s and is still widely used today. It became standard not only for the Bundeswehr and the U.S. Army, but the scheme was also used for the military vehicles of many NATO members. It is without a doubt, one of the most long-standing camouflage patterns used by the largest number of countries and different vehicles. The camouflage consists of a three-color scheme of olive green, black, and brown. This color pattern is designed to blend into a variety of natural environments. Among the most well-known vehicles using this camouflage are the Leopard 2 and Abrams M1 main battle tanks (MBTs), the Marder and CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), the Stryker, Boxer, and CV90 multi-purpose armored vehicles, the legendary M113 armored personnel carrier (APC), and the family of Humvee light multi-purpose vehicles and their many derivatives. This list does not include the many vehicles, both armored and unarmored, used by NATO members for various tasks.
