Description
The Battle of Kursk, fought between July 5th and August 23rd of 1943, was one of the largest confrontations of World War II and a turning point on the Eastern Front. This operation, known as Operation Zitadelle by Germany, aimed to crush the Soviet salient at Kursk through a pincer attack, securing a strategic advantage in the East.
The Battle of Kursk ended with a decisive Soviet victory. Germany suffered substantial losses in manpower and armored vehicles, weakening its offensive capabilities on the Eastern Front. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union solidified its strategic superiority and seized the initiative in the East, launching a series of offensives that would eventually lead to the liberation of Eastern Europe.
In summary, Kursk was not only a tactical milestone due to the scale of the confrontations and the massive use of armored vehicles, it was also a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany's war effort on the Eastern Front.
