It focuses primarily on the Type 98 (1938) uniform, which was issued in various shades of olive drab and khaki. Because of wartime logistics and heavy field use, uniform colors often varied significantly, even among soldiers in the same unit. To capture this wide range of tones, the set provides two distinct shades of khaki as well as an olive green, along with additional colors for creating mid-tones, highlights, and subtle variations in fabric weathering. These can be used to paint the tunic, trousers, and puttees (cloth leggings) or canvas gaiters. These colors can also be used to paint the helmet, caps and webbing. The set is rounded out with several browns and black for painting the IJA soldier’s equipment, such as straps, bread bag, canteen, and ammunition pouches, plus a skin tone and the colors needed to paint the rifle.
