Early in the war, many Marines wore the P41 utility uniform, made in Olive Drab HBT and prone to fading under the tropical sun into lighter, more muted green or brownish tones. The reversible P42 camouflage uniform also appeared in these campaigns, featuring the well-known “frogskin” pattern with green, brown, and sand tones on the jungle side, and beige with brown shapes on the beach side. Later in the war, the P44 uniform became common, with a slightly cooler Olive Drab tone and similar fading effects.
